INVESTING IN OUR FAMILIES

Our annual budget is in excess of $1.6 million dollars.  Our fundraising and administrative percentage is 14%, meaning 86 cents of every dollar raised goes directly to fulfilling our mission of serving families with children who are experiencing homelessness. Transparency and accountability are important to us. You can be confident that your investment in Families Moving Forward is changing the lives of families here in Durham.

organizational stability

Stability and self-sufficiency for the families we serve is our number one goal. We know that moving families into permanent housing quickly yields better outcomes and makes better use of limited resources.

We strive to demonstrate stability, sustainability and long-term planning to avoid falling into the trap that befalls many direct-service nonprofits: living hand-to-mouth and reacting to crisis in a pattern that mimics our guests. We want to model the healthy behaviors, goal-setting and hospitality that help our families become self-sufficient and break the cycle of homelessness.

grants

Our grant funding comes from a mix of federal, state and local governments, and local, family, and business foundations. Grant funding makes up 20% of our annual income. However, our service model changed mid-2016 from a transitional shelter to an emergency shelter and as a result, we are no longer receiving HUD CoC funds for our shelter program.

donations

Donations to FMF primarily come from individual donors like you! Individual donations, workplace giving, and congregational support make up 65% of our annual income. We are able to accept cash, checks, credit/debit, matching donations, stocks, and planned giving. We gratefully accept many in-kind donations needed by our guests.
